ABOUT CRIME STOPPERS

[Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound services the following communities: KING, SNOHOMISH, KITSAP, and ISLAND COUNTIES.]

Crime Stoppers encourages members of the community to assist local law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime by overcoming the two key elements that inhibit community involvement: fear and apathy.

Crime Stoppers provides a telephone number, Web and mobile Tips to encourage citizens in the community to volunteer vital information helpful to law enforcement agencies to fight against crime.

Callers can remain anonymous and are eligible to receive a cash reward if the information given leads to an arrest and charges or grand jury indictment of a felony offender.

Crime Stoppers relies on volunteer Directors and tax deductible contributions from the public in order to operate the administration of the program.

MANY have asked for an explanation as to how the REWARD process keeps you anonymous:

THE TIP REWARD PROCESS

NOTE: Rewards are 'UP TO' $1,000

AND an automatic $1K for HOMICIDE & BANK ROBBERY

Here is the TIP REWARD process (which does take time in order to maintain your anonymity): Because we are a non profit, we answer to a board of directors that meets once each month. At the meeting, the rewards are approved and checks signed. These checks are associated with your TIP ID # and your chosen PIN #. (So you must not lose these numbers!) These checks are then POSTAL mailed to a contact at Bank of America who then files reports and distributes them to the different branches by POSTAL mail as well. Once the checks are received by our contact, we are notified. Then, when the funds are received by the branches, we are notified again and that's when we let YOU know when you can go to the bank to pick up your cash. When you go to your branch, you will ask for the branch manager (if the manager is not in - ask for the assistant manager). You do not show ID or give your name. You simply state you are there to pick up your CrimeStoppers reward and you give them your TIP ID # and PIN #. You will then be handed your CASH reward.
Please keep both of these in a safe place, do not lose and do not share with anyone. NOTE: If you share your numbers with anyone, you risk losing your reward.

After a reward is established with the tipster, the funds must be claimed in 60 days at the BOA branch. Unclaimed funds will be returned to CSOPS.

After an arrest with charges is made due to a Crime Stoppers tip, that tipster has 180 days to contact CSOPS by phone or the P3 tips APP to establish a reward: 1(800)222-TIPS (8477) or www.p3tips.com

If you call 911 or local police with an immediate location or urgent concern due to a Crime Stoppers and Washington's Most Wanted case, you have 24 hours to submit your tip afterwards and please include the law enforcement that you contacted.

The following individuals are not eligible for rewards:

  1. A commissioned law enforcement officer or other employees of law enforcement agencies and members of their immediate family.
  2. Perpetrator or co-perpetrator of the crime if known.
  3. Victim of the crime and members of their immediate family.
  4. The fugitive.
  5. Security personnel, Bail Bonds Agents and their associates.
  6. If you call 911 first for urgent or immediate situations or work with a detective, YOU MUST place a tip with Crime Stoppers within 24 hours or you will not be eligible to receive a reward.

NOTE: Crime Stoppers accepts tips and information about crimes in order to solve or prevent such crimes.   Users who communicate their own criminal threats by making them through Crime Stoppers are not considered to be Crime Stoppers tipsters; are not eligible for rewards; are not immune from prosecution; and are exempted from the promise of anonymity.
